Our past events - 2024

Christmas lunch

On December 19, 63 members of our club met in the Christmas spirit and made our annual Christmas dinner at Ristorante Girasole a resounding success.

Great food, fantastic atmosphere, lots of laughter. Even our oldest member (96 years old) was there!

And we were delighted to welcome Major Margarete Schürmann from the Wiesbaden Salvation Army.

The lunch ended with an exciting raffle for three Christmas prizes.

A big thank you to Elke Vogel, our German Vice President, who organized this event!

Day trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Rothenburg is truly worth a trip! On December 6 at noon we reached this beautiful little town with half-timbered houses, city walls and picturesque old town decorated for Christmas and were delighted by the magical atmosphere. The cobbled streets were framed by medieval houses, shops, cafes and restaurants and of course Christmas stalls.

The inns offer good home cooking and wine in beautiful glasses, the cafes are cozy: we were in Franconia! The only downside: the weather could have been better.

A tour of St. Jakob's Church took us to the Holy Blood Altar, a masterpiece by the famous Würzburg sculptor Tilman Riemenschneider. The altar was created between 1499 and 1505.

At 9 p.m. all 22 participants returned to Wiesbaden with gifts, packages and specialties in their luggage. It was a lovely trip!

Trip to Darmstadt

On September 30, we took a very interesting trip and visited the steel sculptor Georg-Friedrich Wolf in Darmstadt.

His giant puzzle pieces are very well known. He gave us a tour of his workshop and told us the stories behind his monumental and heavyweight works of art. He is currently creating QR codes from steel blocks. Very impressive!

Club trip to the border triangle

We spent four days (July 9-12, 2024) on our cultural trip to the border triangle - Germany, France and Switzerland. In Lörrach, we visited the sculpture trail leading through the city with a total of 23 fountains and sculptures. We had a sundowner in France and crossed the border triangle bridge that connects Weil and Huningue.

We explored Basel on day two. The tour started at the Tinguely fountain and focused on the old town. In contrast, the next day we visited the Vitra Design Museum in Weil, one of the leading designer museums in the world. Here the focus was on the buildings on the extensive company premises, all built by well-known architects and in their own architectural styles. Particularly worth mentioning - the fire station by Zaha Hadid. We were also able to marvel at the Vitra House, its furniture and accessories.

The Fondation Beyeler in Riehen, Switzerland, ended our cultural trip. For the first time, the park and museum were the setting for an experimental exhibition. At times, the park was shrouded in mysterious clouds of fog. In the museum, we were challenged by the un/usual arrangements of the exhibits.

These were intensive days and a great program selection that challenged the mind.

Nerotal walk and dinner

On June 29, 2024, about 30 of our Club ladies and some of their partners took a walk from the Franco-Prussian War Monument towards the Nerobergbahn, accompanied by very knowledgeable Ute, explaining some of the fascinating stories behind the beautiful villas lined up along the picturesque Nerotal park and monuments.

We ended our insightful stroll at the Girasole Restaurant meeting the other ladies and their partners who could not make it to the walk.

We all enjoyed a delicious Italian meal and a great conversation!

Coffee at Benner's - March 21, 2024

“Health isn't everything but without it everything is nothing”

Wise words by A. Schopenhauer, a German philosopher, that we were reminded of at the event at the Benner’s on March 21, 2024.

In addition to getting together again and having a nice conversation (and a delicious cake), we had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by a nutritionist, Renate Dorweiler. She has spoken about good eating habits and a balanced diet, sharing tips on how we all can improve our health and preserve well-being. After the lecture, she was faced by challenging questions by you, so the event ended on a high with a very lively discussion.

Herring lunch - February 14, 2024

The reserved room in the Forsthaus Rheinblick was filled to its full capacity! We welcomed 41 guests. Everybody seemed to enjoy the lunch in the harmonious atmosphere; there were a lot of lively conversations...such a nice get-together.
And as this lunch took place on the Valentine's Day there was a small, sweet present for everyone. 💙

New Year's Reception - January 18, 2024

Our New Year's reception brought the existing and new members together, set the right framework and kicked off the year 2024 successfully. A big thank you to all the ladies who braved the weather conditions and found their way to the Girasole restaurant.

The program was extensive and included the President's and Treasurer's annual report. The charity chairwoman announced the donations and introduced the individual charity organizations.

A big thank you went to the ladies at the collection point who sort around 600 boxes every year and send them to the Bazaar. Please save the date for this traditional event: April 20, 2024!

The two ladies who brought our traditional welcome brunch back to life were also recognized - thank you!

After the official part, we were able to enjoy a delicious 3-course menu and have interesting, inspiring conversations.
